Vibe Charting - A Six-Layer Framework of AI Companies

I just read an article about the subject by Peter Thiel. I found it interesting and wanted to have a simple visual representation of it. Then I talked to ChatGPT and had it do the job for me.

After (quite) a few conversations, I got what I expected. I called it vibe charting (inspired by the term Vibe Coding) because I just wanted to have a more structured view of the information I am reading. It may help me and others to grasp the idea quickly. It is a quick and dirty job. The chart doesn't have to be perfect.

The prompt

Since I mainly use voice to chat, I don't have an exact text prompt. My collection of voice prompts include the following key elements:

1) Peter Thiel's 6 layers of AI companies.

2) Examples of companies in each layer.

3) Order of the layers: Layer 1 at the bottom. Layer 6 on top.

4) Add colors to the layers.

5) Make the view vertical instead of horizontal.

Lessons learned

- To do vibe charting, pick a simple chart type.

- Be patient. It may take multiple rounds of design by the bot.

- Lower your expectations. You may not have the exact colors, fonts, positioning etc.

- Let AI do the data collection such as the 6 layers of AI companies and the representative companies. This is a big time saver instead of me doing the work.

- Vibe charting can be quite useful for prototyping, or slide creation.

- ChartGPT or other bots are great at collecting data from the internet.

Charts in the process

During the vibe charting process, the bot produced a few charts that needed fixes. Here they are.

1. Need coloring

2. Need a vertical view

3.Misunderstand my need of a vertical view.
4.The order of layers is incorrect. Layer 1 at bottom and layer 6 on top.
